STEP 1: Enroll in TLPL101 (Step 1): Inquiry Approach to Teaching STEM- an asynchronous online course
Course Description: Explore STEM teaching and learning, classroom complexity, and develop teaching skills through self-paced modules, discussion boards, and virtual instruction. Participants will explore/understand the fundamentals of inquiry teaching, observe, plan, and facilitate a student-centered STEM talk.
What experiences will participants receive?
Week 1: Technology and enrollment assistance
Six weekly modules with a workload commitment of 2-3 hours per week
Work culminates in facilitating an inquiry-based and student-centered STEM talk with a student
Build a community with course participants and UMD faculty
What are the benefits of enrolling in the course?
Receive 1.5 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credit issued by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE)
Receive one UMD Continuing Education Unit (CEU) and digital certificate (included in the $35.00 fee)
Gain insight into certification options at UMD; If participants attend UMD, the online course can substitute for TLPL101, the first course in the TT secondary STEM certification pathway
Receive instruction from TT faculty and local high school STEM teachers

STEP 2: Apply to the Master's Certification (MCERT) Program
Program Overview
The Curriculum and Instruction - with Certification (MCERT), Master of Education (M.Ed.) program offers a comprehensive pathway to elementary, middle school, secondary or preK-12 teacher certification and a Master of Education degree in just one year. Designed for aspiring educators across various grade levels and subject areas, MCERT combines rigorous coursework with intensive mentored internships in partnership with school districts like Anne Arundel, Howard, Montgomery, and Prince George’s Counties.
